OV is free. AI features call the provider with your own API key (BYOK) — there's no markup or middleman fee from us.

Why free?
- OV is a local-first app. We run no servers and no collaboration backend — even cross-device sync goes through your own iCloud, so there's nothing that costs us to keep running.
- Your data lives on your disk; we never see it.
- AI calls go through your key, so you pay the provider directly.
- The code is MIT-licensed open source.
How much will the AI cost me?
Rough OpenAI costs at 2026 rates (gpt-5.4-mini model):

Every core feature of OV (editor · DB · calendar · search) works fully without the AI. Copilot is optional — leave the key blank and it stays hidden.
Ads? Telemetry? Selling data?
None. Detailed accounting in the privacy policy.
Will there be paid features later?
No paid features are planned. If we ever introduce any, we will hold ourselves to these rules:
- What's free today will stay free, forever.
- Any paid feature must add clear additional value (e.g. optional team collaboration) — never gating something that already works.
- The open-source code stays open source.
